“His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.’”

Growing up in a small barrio is not a limiting factor in pursuing God’s purposes for your life. I grew up in a small barrio, but God gave me a mind that quest for more than what a barrio school can provide. When I reached Grade 5, I was qualified to be part of DepEd Special Program for advance learners. It was a massive breakthrough for me, but it came at a high price.
One day, my parents were surprised to see me home at lunchtime rather than after class in the afternoon. When asked why I was home early, I blurted I’m done going to a special school. I cannot endure any more the repeated bullying of my schoolmates.
Without scolding, my father politely told me that he will bring me back to school. He took his trusty big old bike, placed me in front of his seat by the horizontal bar, and pedaled patiently for the next 4 kilometers stretch. During the ride, he assured me that he loves me and that I have a Father in heaven who cares and empowers me to face life’s brutalities. While pedaling, he recited to me 2 Peter 1:3-4 as ‘His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.’
My, I will never forget that bike ride. I was gently discipled and soaked in my earthly father’s love radiating the greater love of my Heavenly Father up in heaven. He made me realize that HIS DIVINE POWER and HIS DIVINE PROMISES enable me to have a DIVINE NATURE that will overcome all worldly traps.
PRAYER
Dear God, help me to optimize your divine power and exceeding great promises to nurture the divine nature you planted in me. I want to confidently shout that Jesus reigns in my life and the space that I live in. In Jesus’ name, amen.
